Tutbury & Outwoods

I was born in 1959 and raised in Repton and have worked in the pub trade all my life. I got married 35 years ago to Jane and have 2 grown up children Brett 32 and Mitchelle 30 and a grandson Myles 2. Moved to the Beacon Hotel in Outwoods in 1983 and have now retired

Attended Repton primary school then John Port secondary school. Left at 16 to take a joinery apprenticeship, at 19 I trained to work underground at Rawden colliery then I joined my father in the family business taking many courses and obtaining many qualifications

Career outside politics

Took a joinery apprenticeship when I left school then did a year as a coal miner. Started in the Pub trade at 19 being a very young Landlord. At the age of 22 I was running a pub on my own which was very unusual at that time. My father and I also provided Mobile bars all over the Midlands, the largest we undertook was a show where 40,000 people attended. we also provided a majority of the bars at Burton upon Trent Town Hall for over 20 years

Family / Where you Live

I live at 302 Tutbury Road with my wife Jane who I married in 1979 and my mother Margaret. We have 2 sons and a grandson who Jane looks after 2 days a week

Political career

I was a Parish Councillor for Outwoods 1987 till 1992 when in 1992 my father became the Borough Councillor for Outwoods and I stood down to take on a larger workload in the business but helped my father in that role until he passed away in 2002. I was then asked if I would stand for that seat but I was not able to as running a busy and successful Public house and the mobile bars precluded from accepting that offer but I can now fulfill my ambition and stand in the area that I know so well and whose residents views I can defend

Hobbies / Fun Fact

I have recently taken up walking with my wife Jane. I am a bit of a Petrol head always having large cars and motor bikes. I also enjoy after dinner speaking. the largest crowd i have spoken to is 150 and was very nerve racking When I was a landlord age 22 the Police turned up to do a check, I went to see if I could help the sergeant who promptly bundled me out the door saying I was to young to be in the pub. It took a while but he did apologize

Kept the family business busy and successful for many years even after a devastating fire in 2008 and was closed for 8 months we reopened  without loosing any trade even more successful. Recovering from smashing my right leg in a motor bike crash breaking it in 9 places to run a half marathon and being elected as a Parish Councillor for Outwoods twice with the largest amount of votes cast for any candidate
