Ed Barker




Ed retired from Thomas Alleynes High School Uttoxeter in 2014 after 12 years as farm manager and HLTA. Prior to that he had been a dairy farmer for 35 years.  


Originally 4 GCEs from Alleynes Grammar School Uttoxeter , then National Certificate in Agriculture from Staffs College of Agriculture, Rodbaston.

In 2009 2 GCSEs and HLTA from TAHS Uttoxeter

Career outside politics

Still groundsman at Wootton CC after 25 years, some voluntary work and practising self sufficiency

Family / Where you Live

Wife (Rose) and 2 sons plus two grandsons . Ed lives at Wootton in the far north eastern corner of Staffordshire

Political career

Former chairman of Uttoxeter NFU, Staffordshire NFU Tenants Committee, and Wootton Parish Council. Got himself elected to ESBC to represent Weaver Ward.

Hobbies / Fun Fact

Still playing cricket, walking and acting. Nick Hewer described Ed as a polymath when he appeared on Countdown ( the irony is that he had to open the dictionary he'd just been awarded to find out what it meant)


Founder member of the Tom Boden Memorial sports trust who raised £10,000 to purchase Denstone tennis courts and bowling green and protect them from the developers, then £10,000 more for a trust fund to keep them going.
Founder member of Wootton Cricket Club who turned a cattle pasture into a cricket ground. Founder of the first farmers market in Derbyshire at Buxton followed by ones at Glossop, Belper and Swadlincote
