Bob Fraser

Dove (County)

I was born in Liverpool (Sefton General hospital) in 1947, in a very bad winter and living my early youth in Kirkby from where I became part of the Merseybeat scene, playing keyboards in bands like the Undertakers in places like the Cavern, etc.

My secondary education was at Kirkby Brookfield Comp, one of the early comprehensive schools, also attended by Phil Thompson. I trained in Architecture in Liverpool, dropping out to play and tour (it was, after all the sixties). Re-started training in Architecture before taking up computer programming.

Career outside politics

Before retirement I ran my own Software House, specialising in software for textile garment manufacturers. But in my later sixties I am now fully retired and am dedicated to my seat on the County Council.

Family / Where you Live

I now live in Horninglow with my wife Sue (who works at the Museum of Childhood , Sudbury) but the children have left, Julia is a teacher (i/c year 5 at a middle school in Bedford, Stephen is a graphic designer in Milton Keynes and has a 2-year old son Alex.

Political career

I was chairman of theĀ  de Ferrers Governing Body (eventually for 14 years) when I was asked by Philip Atkins to stand for County Council, Dove Division which I won in 2005. I became shadow cabinet member for Children and Young People until we won the next election in 2009 and I was asked to take on a cabinet post within Health. We won again in 2013 and I am currently a member of the Healthy Staffordshire Scrutiny Panel and vice chairman of the Pensions committee. I have chaired the admissions committee for 8 years now. I also represent the county on the Borough Health Scrutiny Committee and on the Parking Committee.

Hobbies / Fun Fact

My life has been filled with Music and Cars, from a Skiffle band in Primary School, through Recorder then Violin then Bass Guitar and Organ in clubs. From beat up old Bedfords, through MGs, many Fords and especially Jaguars to now finally my Mercedes. Did I mention that I played at the Cavern?

In the Civic world, I was chosen to be Vice Chairman of the County Council and in that year my wife and I visited most of Staffordshire, including presiding over Citizenship ceremonies and attending many events at places like Lichfield Cathedral, Rudyard Lake and Birmingham for the Youth Orchestra. Sue and I were introduced to Princess Anne at Amerton and I met Prince Andrew at Newcastle College, but I suppose the pinnacle was an invitation the following year to a royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace where we saw the Queen and Prince Philip.
