Biography

I worked for Rolls Royce Naval Marine in Derby for 40 years taking early retirement in 2007, I have been involved with local politics since 2005

 

Education

It seems a long time since I was in full time education, I was educated in Derby and attended Derby College of further education and have continued to develop my skills throughout my working life more recently concentrating on the world of local politics

Career outside politics

Outside of politics, I am involved with the Ministry of Justice and prison service spending time working in the Courts and at local Prisons

Family / Where you Live

I am a true Burtonian, born in Horninglow and now live in Brizlincote Valley with my wife Lynda which allows me to be very visible and accessible to the community My wife and I have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Political career

I was elected in May 2007 as a Conservative Councillor and within 12 months I was appointed to ESBC Cabinet. In 2011 I was re-elected by the residents of Brizlincote and continued with my Cabinet role with a wide range of port folio responsibilities. As deputy leader I was responsible for public and dramatic arts, culture, leisure facilities, Council revenues and benefits and Health. As the Local Authority appointee to the Council of Governors at the Queens Hospital in Burton I am informed on all issues associated with the operation and Management of the Hospital Trust attending regular formal monthly meetings and many other informal meetings.

Hobbies / Fun Fact

My wife and I have season tickets to watch Burton Albion; we use the local gym and spend as much time as we can with our 4 Grandchildren

Achievements

I have worked tirelessly for the community, I am proud to have delivered as a Cabinet Member the refurbished Meadowside Leisure Centre and ensured the refurbishment of the Leisure Centre in Uttoxeter and the Brewhouse Centre in Burton which was commenced in 2014. I consistently work on behalf of the community, addressing issues such as speeding vehicles and school parking issues working with the County Councillor, introduction of CCTV at Tesco Express to combat antisocial behaviour. I work closely with the enforcement team to eradicate the ongoing problems of dog fouling. In addition I have secured financial grants for the local Scout group and WI. Also, introduction of the refurbished play area at Tower Woods followed by, the removal of overgrown trees and brambles adjacent to the Co op on Woods Lane and other locations in the Valley.
