Conservatives sweep to victory in Staffordshire

Burton and Uttoxeter's County Councillors

Conservatives swept to power on Staffordshire County Council, following an overhwhelming vote for change at County Hall.  The results were an emphatic backing for the Conservatives manifesto commitments to reduce Council Tax, invest in the counties crumbling roads, and cut out waste and inefficiencies.

49 Conservative Councillors were elected across the County, leaving the Labour Party with just 2 Councillors in the whole of East Staffordshire.

In Burton, Kathy Lamb defeated Labour to win Burton Trent ward, and Liz Staples took the Horninglow and Stretton seat from the sitting Labour Councillor.

The success means that the County Council is now lead by local Conservative Councillor Philip Atkins.

"Philip said,"This victory shows just how desperate the people of Staffordshire are for change.  The new Council will work to help families and small businesses to cope in the recession.  These are difficult times, and local people can rest assured that we are on their side".
