Conservatives back Uttoxeters Farmer Market
Despite the dull and rainy weather people turned out in their hundreds throughout the day to support the first Uttoxeter Farmers Market last Saturday.
The market of 24 stallholders taking 27 of the 30 stalls available opened at 9.00 am, with some having to send for fresh supplies by midday the Market was so popular.
The new Market was opened officially at 10.00 am by Cllr Cedric Insley, Mayor of East Staffordshire who, after urging everyone to spend their money, went on a tour of the Market supporting various stalls.
Shoppers commented on the wide variety of goods on offer because under the Market's rules no more than two stalls are the same.
The market, which was the brainchild of Cllr Philip Atkins, has funding from Conservative County Councillor Geoff Morrison's and Borough Councillor David Brookes' community funds, which they can use to support local projects.
Traders throughout the town were reporting an increase in trade of between 15 and 20% on a normal Saturday trade and people turned out despite the weather to keep the market busy all day long.
Uttoxeter Farmers Market has its own website at www.uttoxeterfarmersmarket.co.uk where both customers and stallholders can see Market dates, stallholders and the types of produce on sale.
