Conservatives back Walking School Bus Scheme
Conservatives in Uttoxeter have thrown their backing behind a scheme to improve safety for pupils on their way to school.
Philip Atkins, Staffordshire County Councillor for Uttoxeter Rural, walked with children and their parents to All Saints First School, Denstone to support their efforts to promote Road Safety in Denstone with a Walking Bus.
The narrow roads with traffic going to work in the morning and to school at nearby Denstone College has created a dangerous situation in the narrow roads in the village.
Philip has already funded a Community Speed Radar Gun for Denstone with ESBC WASP funding and 6 volunteers, who are being trained in its use at this moment, stepped forward when asked at a recent Parish Council meeting.
Philip Atkins said," I am here today to support the village parents and their children who wish to get out of their cars and walk to school. I hope that drivers and the parents of children in school buses who see this scene will think carefully about journey times and their speed through the village."
He added, "There may be some inconvenience for drivers but it is far safer for the village children. I also hope that the planners who passed recent applications will now see the need for a footway and ask those involved in the quest for traffic calming and land opposite the Village Shop to create a footway to think what their past actions have resulted in."
